The Perfect Foundation: SKIN!

How often do you forget about your skin?  It is very easy to forget about our beautiful melanin skin due to the amount of makeup and "cover ups" that we have on the market. I love concealers and correctors as much as the next person, but I also know that taking care of my skin now, will lead to a healthier more ageless look later. There are so many ways to care for your foundation, but the most important steps you need to know are: cleanse, tone, and moisturize.

CLEANSE:

It's very important to clean your face with a cleanser, rather than bar soap. Soap strips the skin of its Screen Shot 2015-06-02 at 2_30_20 PM
natural lipids which causes severe dryness and increases your sebum production (oil). You should know your skin type when purchasing facial cleansers so you do not clog your pores, or irritate your skin. It is also very important to clean your face thoroughly while using lukewarm water to rinse. Water that is too cold or too hot can cause broken capillaries underneath your skin. Splash a little cool water on your face after you rinse off the cleanser to jazz up your circulation. Tips: For lazy nights, wipe your face with makeup wipes, but be sure to wash your face in the morning.

TONE:

It also helps to clean out any residue and dirt that is left over in your pores. Witch Hazel is commonly used as a toner, but it contains alcohol which is a super drying astringent. Look for toners with bacteria fighting ingredients such as: rose water, lavender citric acid, or salicylic acid. We want to help our skin, not harm it.

MOISTURIZE:

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! It is very important to moisturize your face in order to keep skin healthy and protect it labeljarfrom drying out. Dry skin causes wrinkles, and your body needs to stay moisturized in order to continue producing a balance of natural oils that keep it supple. You should also use an SPF (15 or higher) moisturizer during the day and a good hydrating moisturizer at night. Tip: Your skin replenishes and repairs itself while you sleep.

Remember ladies, these products should cater to your specific skin type and needs. Do not follow the hype and buy things based on commercials or popularity. Everyone's skin is different, so you have to find the right products that will keep your skin youthful, vibrant, and beautiful. Tips: Creams and lotions in tubes last longer than those in jars. Keep skincare products out of direct sunlight (away from the window).

How often are you washing your face? What type of skincare products do you use for your "foundation"?
