It's no secret that dark skinned women in the entertainment, fashion and beauty industry often get the short end of the stick. Social media campaigns like #Unfairandlovely and #blackgirlsaremagic exist because mainstream media outlets continually present a singular image of white, blonde and long-legged as the default definition of beauty.

Although there have been positive steps towards inclusion in the beauty industry like Lupita selected as the face of Lancôme and more dark shades included in popular makeup lines, the industry still has a long way to go. Just earlier today, Tarte cosmetics had a marketing mishap on their hands as their followers on Instagram lost it when they presented the picture below to promote their new Rainforest of the Sea line:
