10 ways to Slay your Spring Makeup Looks
10 tips that will take your Everyday Makeup to the Next Level.
There is no doubt that this is the year of the GLOW. From glow kits, to extreme highlighted cheekbones on Instagram, the "strobing" trend is here to stay and is totally in for Spring!
Highlighting enhances your best features and in this step-by-step guide, I'll show you how to get a gorgeous glow without looking greasy.
1. "EYELIGHT"
Highlighting your inner tear duct can not only be flattering to your eyes, It gives the illusion of WIDE AWAKE eyes. If you’ve had a long night or just plain old tired looking eyes, this step will brighten your eye area! This also minimizes the appearance of dark eye circles. A MUST TRY.
2. NOSE HIGHLIGHT
Highlighting your Nose can be done in two easy steps:
Step 1. Highlighting the very tip of the nose
Step 2. Highlight the lower middle part of the nose upwards either towards eyebrows or stop sooner. Ruby Kisses All Over Glow "Light Glow” is a great highlight that is pigmented and very affordable. See our previous post, “Glowing on a budget” for other affordable highlighter suggestions.
3. CAST AN EYE-SHADOW
Putting eyeshadow below lower lash line gives your eye dimension. Depending on colors you choose will determine the smokiness.
4. YOUR BOTTOM LASH LINE DESERVES SOME SHINE TOO
This trick opens up your eyes. It’s a great tid for smaller eyed beauties who want to make their eyes appear bigger. This trick also gives an awake look to tired eyes. With my skin tone I like to use an off white color, close to a light brown nude or pinkish nude which both look great on darker skin tones. I’ve been using Anastasia highlighting duo pencil in shade “Shell/Lace”. NYX also has great options in color range. This trick also minimizes the appearance of darkness in the eye area
5. PRIMETIME FOR LASHES.
Primers enhance the wear of your mascara. They help give added length and volume that mascaras can’t do by themselves. You’ll notice how long your coated lashes last when you incorporate this step. I prefer black or dark brown primers. Another plus about primers is that most companies are putting conditioners in the formula. Laura gellers fortifying strengthening black primer is deep black [$24.00]. You can also DIY lash mimicking fibers by adding translucent powder after each coating of mascara!
6. HIT THE TOWN WITH DARK BROWN
Black liner can be messy and sometimes give a hard finish especially since we are sweating more into the warmer months, which in turn affects our make-up. Opt out black liners for brown-darker brown liners for eyes, as it gives a more natural finish for this season without sabotaging a BOLD eye. Trust me you will get so many compliments. Raccoon eyes are not cute anytime of the year. I would still swatch colors on your own skin tone because colors do vary person to person.
Three truly waterproof/resistant brown liners in hue ascending order
• Lorac FOTL Pro Eye Pencil “Dark Brown” (a beautiful, slightly red) middle/dark brown)$20
• Smashbox Always Sharp Kohl Liner “Sumatra” Deep Rich Dark brown $20
• Stila Smudge Stick waterproof EL “Damsel” (Richly Muted Dark Brown) $22
7. A COLORED BLINK WINK
Colored mascaras are so in season. Kiss the tips of your lashes with some color. Brands Such as Benefit Cosmetics [$24.00] Butter London [$15.00], and NYX [$6.99] have variety of colored mascaras. See above photo of Jana in blue mascara
8. BROWS THAT WOW
I don’t think Rocking fuller brows is going anywhere. Since it accentuates the natural feature, it’s actually a more convenient trend. “How?” You might ask. Well since most aren’t born with perfectly shaped brows, leaving them fuller requires less work and maintenance, Did I mention it slims your face? See above model photo of Arlenis Sosa
9. COLOURFUL LIPS
Spring and Summer are big welcomings for color variety and fearlessness. Take this opportunity to vive up your lips. Fuscia lip colors have a classic, subtle yet FUN look that can be worn both for spring and summer. Nicka K Lipstick with Vita E shade #906 “Brilliant Fuchsia” is one of favorite affordable fuchsia lip colors. On high-end Lorac Pro Matte Pencil in Magenta is also a beautiful shade in this color family retailing for ($16.00)
10. WALKING THE WHITELINE
Incorporating white liner by using some simple techniques can give your lips a more fuller look. I used Benefits “High Brow” which is a light pink/white tone. These are fun tricks for gals who don’t have a really pronounced pout. Even if you have a well pronounced cupids bow this will really accentuate this desirable feature.
